Vision Therapy in Delhi
Specialist Vision Therapy - Not Just Another Eye Test

Delhi has excellent ophthalmology hospitals and busy optometry chains. What most of them share is a common limitation: the standard examination checks how clearly you see a static chart. It does not check whether your eyes work together, whether they track accurately across a line of text, whether you sustain focus over two hours of study, or how your brain processes what it sees. For the Delhi parent who has been told "the glasses should fix it" - and they haven't - vision therapy addresses the functional layer the prescription misses. Caring Vision Therapy's COVD-certified specialists serve Delhi patients via telehealth - India's highest standard of functional vision care, from home. In-clinic at our Chennai and Hyderabad clinics.

Vision therapy is a clinically supervised, individually designed programme of therapeutic activities that trains the brain and visual system to function more efficiently - addressing deficiencies in eye teaming, tracking, focusing, visual processing, and coordination that a glasses prescription cannot correct. It is categorically different from a new prescription: glasses compensate for refractive blur; vision therapy rehabilitates the functional skills the visual system needs for sustained, comfortable, accurate vision. NCR families are increasingly seeking this specialist care via telehealth from Caring Vision Therapy after standard optometry - and sometimes after specialist hospital visits at AIIMS or Max - left questions unanswered.

Evidence base: Vision therapy is endorsed by the American Optometric Association and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD). The NIH-funded CITT randomised controlled trial established that office-based vision therapy significantly outperforms home exercises for convergence insufficiency. The PEDIG trials provide similar evidence for amblyopia. These are not small studies - they are multi-centre RCTs published in major ophthalmology and optometry journals.

When "The Glasses Should Fix It" Is Not the Whole Answer

A parent in South Delhi whose child is in Class 9 at Allen coaching, tested at 6/6, and still struggling with reading comprehension is often told there is nothing wrong. A Gurgaon IT professional who has had two new glasses prescriptions in 18 months and still gets headaches after three hours at a screen is told to take screen breaks. In both cases, the issue may be a functional binocular vision problem that the standard examination never tested for.

Convergence insufficiency, accommodative lag, saccadic tracking deficits, and suppression are extremely common - especially in Delhi's high-demand academic and professional environments - and they are invisible to a standard optometry refraction. Vision therapy directly addresses these functional gaps.

A telehealth consultation with Caring Vision Therapy will tell you clearly whether vision therapy is indicated for your specific situation - or whether a different pathway is more appropriate. We do not recommend therapy to everyone who contacts us. We recommend it when there is clinical evidence to support it.

Six Things Delhi Eye Exams Do Not Check

Understanding this gap is the first step for Delhi patients who have sought answers from multiple specialists and not found them.

Eye Teaming (Binocularity)

Standard refraction tests each eye in isolation. It does not assess whether the two eyes point at the same target simultaneously, whether suppression is present, or whether binocular coordination breaks down under sustained near work - as it frequently does for Delhi coaching students.

Eye Tracking (Saccades & Pursuits)

Smooth, accurate eye movement across a line of text is essential for fluent reading. Saccadic and pursuit deficits are among the most common functional vision problems in Delhi school children - and they pass every standard eye test without exception.

Visual Processing

How quickly and accurately the brain interprets visual information - discrimination, memory, sequential processing. Critical for academic performance, especially under exam pressure. Not assessed by any standard optometry or ophthalmology examination.

Accommodative (Focusing) Stamina

Can the eye maintain clear focus at near under sustained demand - for two hours of textbook study, or a full workday at a screen? Accommodative lag, spasm, and inflexibility are extremely common in Delhi students and professionals, almost never screened.

Depth Perception & Stereopsis

True 3D vision requires precise binocular coordination. Deficits affect sports performance, hand-eye coordination, and driving - important for Delhi patients at every age, and invisible to a standard visual acuity test.

Neurological Visual Function

After TBI, concussion, or stroke - conditions managed at AIIMS, RML, and Sir Ganga Ram - visual problems including diplopia, field loss, and tracking deficits require neuro-optometric assessment, not just updated glasses.

How Vision Therapy Works for Delhi Patients via Telehealth

A COVD-certified, individually designed programme - not a generic exercise kit or online video series.

01

Telehealth Functional Assessment

We review your vision history, current symptoms, previous reports, and school or work context in detail. For Delhi patients who need equipment-based functional testing, we discuss whether coordination with a local optometrist is appropriate, or whether a one-time visit to our Chennai clinic would be beneficial.

02

Individual Programme Design

Based on the functional diagnosis, we design a weekly programme targeting the specific visual skills requiring rehabilitation - eye teaming, accommodative function, tracking, visual processing, or a combination. For Delhi children, the programme accounts for school timetables, coaching schedules, and exam periods.

03

Weekly Live Telehealth Sessions

Each 45–60 minute session is live and one-to-one with a COVD-certified specialist via secure video. Activities are performed in real time with the specialist observing and adjusting. Sessions are scheduled at times suited to Delhi families - evenings, weekends, and after coaching hours are available.

04

Structured Daily Home Exercises

Between sessions, daily exercises reinforce the therapeutic work. Materials are simple - printed resources or low-cost items posted to your Delhi address. Our specialists review home exercise quality at each session and adjust instructions as progress is made. Consistency between sessions is what drives outcomes.

05

Documented Progress Reviews

Every 6–8 weeks, documented objective measurements - visual acuity, binocular function, tracking, symptom scores - are shared with Delhi patients and families. You always have a clear picture of where you are in the programme and what remains to be achieved.

Vision Therapy FAQ - Delhi Patients

My child has glasses but still struggles in school - could it be a binocular vision problem?
Yes - this is one of the most common presentations we see from Delhi families. Glasses correct refractive blur; they do not address how the two eyes work together, whether the eyes track accurately across a line of text, or how quickly the brain processes visual information. A child wearing the correct prescription but still struggling with reading comprehension, losing place in text, or underperforming on timed tests is likely showing signs of a functional binocular vision problem. A telehealth functional assessment will establish whether that is the case and what the specific deficiency is.
What is the difference between vision therapy and regular eye exercises?
Generic "eye exercises" - including pencil push-ups or online visual training apps - are unsupervised, not based on a clinical diagnosis, and not calibrated to any individual's specific functional deficits. Vision therapy is a clinically prescribed, supervised programme built around a precise functional assessment. Activities are progressively sequenced, monitored at every session, and adjusted based on measurable changes in binocular function. The difference is equivalent to following a general fitness video versus a physiotherapy rehabilitation programme prescribed for a specific injury. One may be harmless; the other produces documented clinical outcomes.
How long does a full vision therapy programme take?
Duration depends on the condition, severity, age, and home exercise consistency. Convergence insufficiency typically responds in 12–24 weekly sessions. Amblyopia programmes range from 12 weeks for mild cases in young children to 52+ weeks for severe or adult presentations. TBI and stroke neuro-vision rehabilitation may continue 6–18 months. For Delhi parents managing board exam calendars, we plan programmes with exam periods in mind where possible and provide a realistic programme timeline at the initial assessment - not an open-ended commitment.
Can Delhi adults benefit from vision therapy - not just children?
Absolutely. Adults in Delhi benefit from vision therapy for convergence insufficiency, digital eye strain with binocular cause, post-TBI visual dysfunction, amblyopia, and accommodative problems. The adult brain retains neuroplasticity for visual skill improvement through structured training. Adult programmes differ from paediatric programmes in pacing and technique, but clinical outcomes are well-documented. Delhi professionals with screen-related symptoms, and adults with long-standing uncorrected binocular problems, are well-served by our telehealth programme. There is no age at which a functional vision assessment becomes irrelevant.
What happens at the first consultation?
The first session is a comprehensive history and functional assessment - not treatment. We review all existing reports, conduct a structured functional assessment via video, ask detailed questions about symptoms, school or work context, and previous diagnoses. By the end of the first session, you will understand what functional skills were assessed, what the findings suggest, and whether a vision therapy programme is clinically indicated. If it is, treatment planning is finalised in a second session before any programme begins. Delhi families leave the first consultation with clarity, not a sales pitch.
