Understanding the Investment

How Vision Therapy Pricing Works

Vision therapy is a clinical programme - not a single appointment. Cost is made up of two distinct phases: the initial diagnostic evaluation and the ongoing therapy sessions. Most patients will require both.

Phase 1
Functional Vision Evaluation
A 60–90 minute comprehensive diagnostic session. This is NOT a standard eye test. It tests binocular vision, vergence, accommodation, eye tracking, visual perceptual skills, and neuro-optometric function across 20+ clinical parameters. You receive a full written report and personalised therapy plan.
One-time cost at the start of care. Includes written clinical report and therapy recommendation.
Phase 2
Weekly In-Clinic Sessions
Structured 45–60 minute therapy sessions with your specialist, once per week. Each session is carefully sequenced to build on the previous one. Between sessions you receive a prescribed home exercise programme (10–20 min/day). Sessions continue until clinical goals are met - typically 12 to 36 weeks.
Session frequency is typically once weekly. Progress reviewed every 4–6 sessions.
Option
Telehealth Sessions
For patients outside Chennai or Hyderabad - including patients in 20+ countries - telehealth vision therapy sessions are available. These are ideal for home programme supervision, maintenance therapy, and patients who cannot attend in person. The initial evaluation is required before telehealth sessions commence.

We provide a personalised cost estimate after evaluation - not before.

Because every patient's condition, severity, and required session count is different, we cannot give an accurate total cost estimate without a clinical evaluation first. What we can promise: the evaluation will give you a clear programme plan with a defined session estimate so you can make an informed decision with full information. Book your evaluation to get started.

What Drives the Total

6 Factors That Affect Your Vision Therapy Cost

Two patients with the same condition may have very different total costs. Here is what determines the investment required for your specific case.

Condition & Severity
Mild convergence insufficiency may resolve in 12 weeks. Complex neuro-optometric rehabilitation after TBI or stroke can take 24–36 weeks. Severity - not just the condition name - determines session count.
Patient Age & Neuroplasticity
Children generally respond faster due to greater neural plasticity. Adults can achieve excellent outcomes - the research supports effective vision therapy at all ages - but may require more sessions to achieve equivalent improvements.
Home Programme Compliance
Patients who consistently complete their prescribed home exercises (10–20 minutes per day) typically reach goals faster, requiring fewer total sessions. Compliance is the single biggest variable within the patient's control.
Number of Conditions
Some patients present with a single condition (e.g., convergence insufficiency only). Others have co-occurring issues - amblyopia + strabismus, or ADHD + visual processing disorder. Each additional functional layer adds therapeutic depth and session count.
In-Clinic vs Telehealth
In-clinic sessions use specialised clinical instruments not available at home. Telehealth sessions are suitable for portions of the programme - particularly home programme reinforcement and maintenance - and may be combined with in-clinic visits for an efficient, cost-managed treatment pathway.
Additional Optical Requirements
Some patients require therapeutic lenses, prism glasses, or syntonics phototherapy as part of their programme. These are prescribed only when clinically indicated and add to the total investment, but significantly improve treatment outcomes.
Is Vision Therapy Worth It?

Vision Therapy vs Surgery vs Patching: A Cost & Outcome Comparison

Before deciding on treatment, understand what each option actually delivers - clinically and financially.

Criterion Vision Therapy Surgery Patching Alone
Treats binocular vision Yes - core of binocular vision therapy Cosmetic only Does not address
Requires general anaesthesia No Yes No
Suitable for amblyopia (lazy eye) Yes - see amblyopia treatment in Chennai Not a treatment for amblyopia Partial (acuity only)
Effective for convergence insufficiency First-line, evidence-based Not indicated Not effective
Develops 3D / depth perception Yes Not directly No
Addresses reading & learning difficulties Yes No No
Typical total cost range (India) Programme-based (eval + sessions) ₹30,000–₹1,20,000+ (varies widely) Low - but incomplete treatment
Recovery time required None Weeks of post-op care None
Evidence-based for strabismus Especially intermittent & accommodative For some types of constant strabismus Not a strabismus treatment

Surgery costs are approximate ranges from published Indian healthcare data and vary by hospital, surgeon, and procedure. This table is for general informational purposes only and does not constitute medical or financial advice. Your clinician will recommend the appropriate treatment pathway for your specific condition after evaluation.

Coverage & Reimbursement

Is Vision Therapy Covered by Insurance in India?

Coverage varies significantly by insurer and policy type. Here is what we know from our patients' experience.

Corporate Health Plans
Some corporate group health plans partially cover vision rehabilitation and neuro-optometric therapy, particularly for TBI and concussion rehabilitation. Check your policy's "vision rehabilitation" or "allied health" clauses.
International Insurance
Many of our global telehealth patients carry international health policies (Cigna, Aetna, Allianz) that include allied health or vision rehabilitation benefits. We provide detailed clinical codes and documentation for all claims.
What We Provide
Caring Vision Therapy provides: detailed clinical diagnosis reports, treatment justification letters, itemised billing receipts, and procedure codes to support insurance reimbursement claims. We cannot guarantee reimbursement but will give you everything needed to submit a complete claim.
Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Vision Therapy Cost

Vision therapy cost in India is made up of an initial evaluation fee and weekly session fees over the programme duration. Conditions requiring 12 weeks of therapy will cost considerably less than conditions requiring 36 weeks. We provide a clear written cost estimate covering the full recommended programme after your evaluation - so you can plan financially before committing to any sessions.
We do not require full upfront payment for the entire programme. Payment options are discussed at the end of your evaluation when you receive your personalised programme plan. We accept Cash, UPI, Credit/Debit Card, and Bank Transfer.
Yes, the evaluation fee is separate and is a one-time charge. It covers the full 60–90 minute diagnostic session, your written clinical report detailing every test result, the therapy recommendation with rationale, a personalised programme plan with estimated session count and timeline, and a plan discussion session with your clinician. You are under no obligation to start therapy after the evaluation.
Coverage depends entirely on your insurer and policy. Some corporate group health plans, international insurance policies, and policies with allied health or vision rehabilitation clauses provide partial or full reimbursement. We supply all the clinical documentation required to support your claim. We recommend calling your insurer's pre-authorisation team with our treatment description before booking.
For many types of squint (particularly intermittent and accommodative strabismus), vision therapy is both the clinically preferred and cost-effective option. Squint surgery in India typically costs ₹30,000–₹1,20,000+ depending on the hospital, and in many cases does not produce true binocular vision - it corrects eye position cosmetically. A vision therapy programme that achieves functional eye alignment and binocular vision is often less expensive in total, with no anaesthesia risk and no recovery time.
Telehealth sessions at Caring Vision Therapy are available for patients outside Chennai and Hyderabad, including patients in 20+ countries. Session pricing is discussed during the initial evaluation. Telehealth is particularly cost-effective for patients who would otherwise incur significant travel costs, and it is suitable for maintenance therapy and home programme supervision components of the programme.
Related Conditions

Related Vision Problems That Vision Therapy Treats

The cost of vision therapy reflects the clinical complexity of the condition being treated. Understanding the conditions covered helps you appreciate why a structured, specialist-led programme is necessary - and why it produces outcomes that generic eye exercises cannot.

Binocular Vision Dysfunction

Binocular vision dysfunction requires a 60–90 minute comprehensive evaluation followed by a 16–36 week structured therapy programme. This investment produces measurable, lasting improvement in binocular coordination, reading fluency, and eye comfort.

Oculomotor Dysfunction

Oculomotor dysfunction therapy targets eye movement precision and stamina. For children with reading difficulties caused by poor eye tracking, this is among the highest-value interventions available - often producing academic improvement that tutoring alone cannot achieve.

Visual Processing Disorder

Visual processing disorder therapy requires specialist assessment tools and individualised protocol design. The cost reflects the clinical expertise and equipment required - but the functional gains for children struggling academically are typically transformative.

Symptoms to Watch

Don't spend years on tutoring when the cause is visual

These symptoms may indicate treatable binocular vision, oculomotor, or accommodative conditions where structured vision therapy offers the best outcome.

  • Double vision while reading or sustained near work
  • Eye coordination problems - eyes not working together smoothly
  • Reading slowly, re-reading lines, or losing place on the page
  • Persistent headaches and eye strain during or after near tasks
  • Blurred vision that fluctuates or worsens through the day

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does treating binocular vision dysfunction require multiple sessions?

Binocular vision dysfunction is a neurological pattern - the brain and visual system have developed habitual, inefficient ways of functioning. Changing these patterns requires systematic, progressive rehabilitation over time. This is why evidence-based vision therapy involves weekly sessions over months rather than a one-off treatment. The number of sessions is determined by the specific diagnosis and the patient's rate of progress.

Is vision therapy cost-effective compared to ongoing tutoring or medication?

For children whose reading difficulties are caused by oculomotor dysfunction or eye coordination problems, vision therapy is significantly more cost-effective than years of tutoring that does not address the underlying visual cause. Treating the vision problem removes the barrier - after which academic support typically shows dramatically better results.

Does Caring Vision Therapy offer flexible payment for longer programmes?

Yes. We offer flexible session packages and phased payment options for longer programmes. Contact us directly or book a consultation to discuss what is most appropriate for your specific case and budget. Transparent pricing is a core part of our ethics-first clinical approach.
