Vision Therapy in India
for NRI and International Patients
Our COVD-certified specialists have treated patients from the UAE, UK, USA, Singapore, Canada, Australia, and 15 other countries - combining an intensive in-clinic block in Chennai with telehealth follow-up, so the journey home does not interrupt your treatment.
Why NRI and International Families Choose Caring Vision Therapy
India has tens of thousands of optometrists, but fewer than 20 hold COVD Fellowship or equivalent international certification in vision therapy. Our founding director, Rabindra Kumar Pandey, holds COVD Fellow and Member, FAAO, MCOptom-UK, and NORA credentials. Most NRI families travelling to India for vision therapy are, in practice, accessing a higher standard of clinical care than is routinely available in their country of residence.
The cost advantage is significant - vision therapy in India is typically 60-80% less expensive than equivalent programmes in the UK, UAE, or USA. We provide all clinical reports in English, formatted for referral back to your GP, neurologist, or school in your home country.
What NRI Patients Receive
- COVD-certified clinical care - the same standard as London or New York
- Intensive in-clinic block combined with telehealth follow-up
- All reports in English, formatted for international referrals
- WhatsApp support between sessions throughout the programme
Two Pathways for International Patients
01 - India Visit
Intensive In-Clinic Block
2-3 weeks in Chennai with daily or alternate-day sessions, followed by telehealth continuation from home. Suitable for most conditions. We schedule the evaluation and first therapy sessions to make maximum use of your time.
02 - Online First
Telehealth Pre-Consultation and Planning
Start with a video consultation before booking travel. We review your history and prior reports, give you a programme estimate, and advise on the minimum India visit duration needed for your specific condition.
Who Should Consider the India Pathway?
Common reason: Many NRI families have been told vision therapy is unavailable locally, is on a 6-12 month waiting list, or is quoted at a cost that is not feasible. India offers equivalent clinical care, faster access, and significantly lower total cost.
- Children with convergence insufficiency, strabismus, or amblyopia
- Adults with post-concussion or TBI visual symptoms
- Children with reading and learning-related vision problems
- Patients with binocular vision dysfunction unresolved abroad
- Children diagnosed with autism or CP requiring specialist visual assessment
- Patients who have been told they need surgery but want a non-surgical opinion
- Adults with computer vision syndrome or chronic digital eye strain
- Patients seeking a second opinion on a previous diagnosis
The NRI Patient Journey - How It Works
Designed to fit around your visit to India, with structured continuity after you return home.
Telehealth Pre-Consultation
Before you travel, we conduct a telehealth video consultation to review your history, prior reports, and visual concerns. This allows us to plan the evaluation and give you a realistic estimate of the in-clinic time needed.
In-Clinic Evaluation and Intensive Block
The functional vision evaluation and initial intensive therapy sessions happen during your India visit. We schedule multiple sessions per week to make maximum use of your time in Chennai.
Written Programme Plan for Home Continuation
Before you leave, we provide a full written programme with home exercises, telehealth session schedule, and a letter for your local optometrist or GP covering the diagnosis and treatment plan.
Telehealth Follow-Up and Progress Review
Ongoing follow-up is conducted via video telehealth. We monitor progress, adjust the home programme, and advise on when a return in-clinic visit would be beneficial.
NRI and International Patient FAQs
Can I do the initial consultation online before travelling to India?
Yes. We offer telehealth video pre-consultations for NRI and international patients. This allows us to review your history, prior reports, and concerns - and give you a realistic estimate of the evaluation findings and programme duration before you book travel.
How many in-person sessions will I need during my India visit?
This depends on the condition and severity. For most conditions, we recommend planning a minimum of 2-3 weeks in Chennai with daily or alternate-day sessions. After this intensive block, the programme continues via telehealth and home exercises. We advise you on required in-clinic time after the pre-consultation.
Is the clinical standard at Caring Vision Therapy comparable to what I would get in the UK or UAE?
Yes. Our founding director holds COVD Fellowship, FAAO, and MCOptom-UK credentials - the same qualifications recognised in the UK and USA. Fewer than 20 practitioners in all of India hold COVD certification. The equipment and clinical protocols used are the same as those in specialist practices in London or New York.
Will you provide reports in English for my doctors back home?
Yes. All clinical reports, evaluation summaries, and discharge documents are written in English and formatted for referral to GPs, neurologists, school SENCOs, or other specialists in your country of residence. We can also liaise directly with your overseas clinicians on request.
